A convenient way to backup the 6300 data or to easily transfer an entire 6300 database to a laptop is to use an Iomega Zip Drive. The zip drive attaches to the parallel printer port on the 6300. This is the 25 pin connector located on the top panel. Once connected, the user may transfer files back and forth between the zip disk and 6300 as if the 6300 had an additional hard drive. After files have been copied to the zip disk, the disk may then be attached to the laptop/desktop, and the files copied using Windows Explorer.
First, we must setup the 6300 to accept the Iomega Zip Drive. This requires five files to be copied from the original Iomega Zip Drive install disk to the 6300. Use the following steps to accomplish the task.
Start the 6300 with the small keyboard attached.
When up and running, escape back to the "Select a station" menu and press 6 to exit to DOS.
Type CD\ [ENTER]
Type MD GUEST [ENTER]
Type COPY CON 2.BAT [ENTER]
Type CD\GUEST [ENTER]
Type GUEST [ENTER]
Type CD\ [ENTER]
Hit the CTRL key and Z key together [ENTER]
Type EDIT CONFIG.SYS [ENTER]
Move cursor down to the line after "device=c:\dos\3mm386.exe auto noems"
Press [ENTER]
Type lastfrive=z
Hit the ALT key and the F key
Press the X key
Press the enter key
Turn the 6300 off and then on for the changes to take effect
Select menu option 7 Utilities, select option 2 Connect to Windows and move to your laptop/desktop. Make sure the LapLink cable is attached. Find the following files on the Iomega install disk and using Windows Explorer copy them to the folder "\Win6300\Download".
Start Win6300, but don't open a database. Select the menu option "Utility" and "Connect to 6300". Press the "Connect now" button. Now use the following steps to copy the listed files over to the 6300.
Enter C:\GUEST into the remote 6300 directory box and press enter
Enter GUEST.EXE into the "Selection for Send/Receive Files" box
Select menu option "Transfer" and then "Send File(s) To 6300"
Repeat for each of the files listed above
Close the communications window when all files have been sent
Press Escape on the 6300
To use the Iomega Zip Drive, remove the LapLink cable and attach the Iomega Zip Drive to the parallel port connector.
Caution: Make sure the power is disconnected from the the Zip Drive before connecting the devices. Damage could result if power is connected.
On the 6300 press Escape twice to reach the "Select a station" menu and press 6 Exit to DOS. Once at the DOS prompt press the 2 key and enter. This will start the Iomega Zip Drive program which will search for the attached drive (this process may take several seconds). If it is found, a new drive letter will be assigned, write down this letter for future reference. The drive letter assigned may be different for each 6300 as each 6300 is slightly different in it's configuration. For the purposes of this document we will use f: as the drive letter.
To use the zip drive effectively look at the following suggestions. Be careful, you can overwrite good files stored on the zip disk.
To copy the entire 6300 database to zip disk:
type XCOPY /E c:\evport\*.* f:\ [ENTER]
To copy the fft data to zip disk:
type XCOPY /E c:\evdata\*.* f:\ [ENTER]
To reverse the process (copy from zip to 6300)
type XCOPY /E f:\evport\*.* c:\ [ENTER]
